Feeding Fur
Feeding your dog or cat fur may seem a bit strange (or even gross), but it may have some benefits including:
A source of natural insoluble fibre and can ‘clean’ out the digestive tract (like a broom!)
May help to eliminate parasites
Fur can help bulk up the stool, which can lead to solid poops and naturally expressing the anal glands
By ‘cleaning’ out the digestive tract can better facilitate absorption of nutrients
A healthy digestive tract can strengthen the immune system
Its possible dogs and cats may be able to absorb micronutrients from fur such as manganese which is an important mineral for supporting healthy ligaments.
Sourcing fur products is fairly easy. We like kangaroo, lamb, cow, rabbit or goat ears with fur on plus hides from some of these animals. You can also find kangaroo and goat tails with fur on, rabbit feet with fur on etc. You can also buy fresh (not dried) fur on products.
Do make sure you are buying Australian product from local suppliers.
As with anything new, start out with small amounts and watch for GI upsets. Too much and your pet may be pooping out furballs 😄
